One day each year Natural Tunnel State Park near Duffield, Virginia has Railroad Day, when train traffic is halted so visitors can actually walk through the tunnel and also view static displays like this year's star, NS #9-1-1, the "First Responder Unit."

The middle of July is hot in Southwest Virginia and the air barely moves at the bottom of the gorge so the tunnel offered a cool respite!

Photography is always a challenge at mid-day in Summer but at the bottom of a gorge it's even worse!  At least the colors helped – this would've been near impossible with a typical black NS unit!

The unit actually had a problem preventing it from operating under its own power so it had to be towed into position for these posed shots over the creek.  I'm not complaining though!
