CSX' James River Sub (one small part)
February 26, 2012
(click on each image to see a larger version -- approximately 1440X900)

This Eastbound is approaching an overlook I hadn't visited in about 20 years. Roughly halfway between Buchanan and Eagle Rock, Virginia, it is most frequently referred to by the nearest signal, Lyle.

11:00am

Here the James River makes some severe bends but the railroad is forced to a more straight path using two bridges and a tunnel (underneath us).

12:49pm

The tunnel is a short one with an interesting shape, simply carved out of the rock.

2:23pm   I can't wait to come back to this spot when it "greens up."
