The Wichita, Tillman & Jackson operates a 100 mile portion of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas
(MKT or "Katy") from Wichita Falls, Texas to Altus, Oklahoma. Originally
chartered by J.A. Kemp and Frank Kell as the Wichita Falls Northwestern Railway Company in 1906, by 1910 it
extended to Forgan in the Oklahoma panhandle. The Katy acquired the company's stock in 1911 but it continued
to operate separately until 1923 when it became the "Northwestern District". The current operator acquired it
from the Union Pacific (Katy's successor) in 1991 and named it for the counties it operates through in Oklahoma
and Texas. |
