Train #K51
A typical scene from my railfan days in the middle eighties. This is train number K51 (empty coal) westbound just outside of Wichita Falls, Texas sometime in probably 1985 (I didn't find a date marked on this slide). This stretch of track was fun for us because we could race alongside the locomotives with the car windows down reaping the full acoustic benefit of the throbbing GEs. We would then accelerate ahead and with dust and gravel flying pull into some driveway for a shot like this. Looking back, the thing that puzzles me is that we never received a speeding ticket!
