A typical scene from my railfan days in the middle
eighties. This is train number K51 (empty coal) westbound just outside of
Wichita Falls, Texas sometime in probably 1985 (I didn't find a date marked
on this slide). This stretch of track was fun for us because we could race
alongside the locomotives with the car windows down reaping the full acoustic
benefit of the throbbing GEs. We would then accelerate ahead and with dust
and gravel flying pull into some driveway for a shot like this. Looking
back, the thing that puzzles me is that we never received a speeding ticket!
